While planning their wedding, many couples struggle to incorporate both partner’s ideas into the plans. Weddings typically lean feminine and dainty, however, that may not be the feeling you are drawn to. I personally love balancing masculine and feminine details in my wedding designs. That way, everyone can connect to it. And you don’t need to miss out on traditional details you’ve always dreamed of, while incorporating some modern twists. 

So no matter what kind of wedding you are planning, keep reading. I want to walk you through the thoughtful details that made up this winter mountain wedding.

A Modern Mountain Wedding in Midway Utah

Choose an Unexpected Color Palette With Dark and Light Tones

The color palette for this wedding set the foundation. Snowy white, organic rust, sleek black, with touches of icy blue to soften it. The landscape and foliage right outside this venue’s doors inspired this color scheme. Subtle nods towards the surrounding snow-covered valley in Midway, Utah grounded this event.

From the moment the guests opened their invitations, the mood of this wedding was clear. A pale blue envelope adorned with personally curated vintage stamps. Inside sharp charcoal-colored paper, next to white with hand-torn edges. This invite suite could have easily leaned masculine, if it weren’t for the addition of flowing traditional script and delicate fine art papers.

The unexpected color scheme was the first step away from typical wedding choices. Proof that neutrals are anything but boring! But the next layer of details brought everything back to still feeling like a wedding.

Add Sturdy Foraged Plants to The Floral Installations

Florals for this modern mountain wedding included traditional table arrangements and innovative minimal installations in the ceremony space.

However, don’t be fooled by the word “traditional” in relation to the table displays. Though the shape and size was customary for many weddings, the thoughtful details Utah wedding florist Sweet Grace Floral added leveled up these arrangements. Mixing delicate with bold through both the color scheme and the flower choices themselves. Romantic snow white garden roses intertwined with sturdy rust colored winter foliage foraged nearby the venue. Staci from Sweet Grace Floral even airbrushed the stems to make them look covered in icy frost. This detail made the florals feel like they were just picked from the mountains outside.

For the ceremony space, the installations were built from foliage seen throughout the other florals, including the bride’s bouquet. The pale blue-green ferns and rust colored branches made for minimal arrangements with a sculptural quality.

The foliage installations from the ceremony spaces continued into the venue. Including along the dramatic stairway where the bride and groom made their entrance into the party. All set on the same modern acrylic stands that the wedding cake was also displayed on, for additional clean lines.

Balance Clean Lines with Organic Touches in The Tablescapes

Because the floral arrangements on the reception tables were delicate, we incorporated extra masculine details into the table decor. For me, tablescapes are all about knowing when to layer textures and when to give bolder pieces space to shine.

Stark black taper candles and sleek black flatware really brought this modern look together. We added ridged glassware echoing the shape of the candleholders, and printed menus at each place, to perfectly balance this tablesetting.  I love the clean lines juxtaposed with the organic foraged florals.

Finally, nature itself added the cherry on top – the lighting. The ceremony and luncheon took place during afternoon. This meant harsher midday light flooded this mountain venue, and lent itself stunningly to the contrast. Lighting can affect the mood of your wedding style so much, and is something I consider when planning.
